On Saturday November 4th the Windsor Valiants U15 Developmental Team made their debut playing their first game against the Valiants Major Bantam team. The U15 team is made up of girls from the Valiants house league program and other girls looking to develop their basketball skills. The U15 features girls from: Sandwich Public School, Vincent Massey Secondary School, Walkerville High School, Kennedy High School, St. Anne’s catholic High School, Westgate Public School and Northwood Public School. Girls on the U15 are in grades 7-10 and are just a group of girls who wanted a taste of higher level basketball action.
The Major bantam team showed what makes them one of the best teams in Ontario handling the Developmental Team pretty well. For the developmental Valiants team there were several bright spots during the game. Starting Centre #21 Olivia Austin-Ghrayeb was all over the floor diving for balls, getting rebounds and being the defensive anchor for the Valiants Developmental Team. Austin-Ghrayeb was named player of the game for Developmental Team. Strong point guard play was made by siblings #5 Reem Chebli and #8 Manar Chebli.
Up next for the U15 team is a tournament in Dearborn Michigan at the Turkey Hoops Showcase. We are looking forward to seeing the debuts of #13 Point Guard Nneke Lockhart, #14 Power Forward Nyra Brown-Henderson and #15 Centre Olivia Carter.
We want to thank Ben Scaria and Sean Mei from the Massey Mustangs Basketball Program for officiating this game. Thanks to Coach Wren Dosant and Josh Leeman Executive Director of the Valiants for giving Coach Keith McShan the chance to coach these fine group of ladies.
Great start Valiants!
